Writer's picture: CheyenneCheyenne

I was supposed to work yesterday, but there was a big storm that interfered with the power. Because of this, I did not get to go in. However, I went in today and made up that work.

Today I learned how to catalogue a singular item using the Past Perfect system. Past Perfect was a little confusing at first, but I quickly got the hang of it. I referred to other entries as I worked, to make sure my work was satisfactory, in addition to asking questions when I was unsure.

I was given a Hercules Powder Co. Galvanometer to catalogue. I had to do internet/book research to input some information in the Past Perfect system. In addition to this, I had to measure the object and take pictures of it.

In my journal, I wrote a couple of questions to ask myself as I worked on this.

- What is it/What does it do?

- When was it made?

- What condition is it in?

A galvanometer is a device used to detect and measure electrical currents. In this case, this is a blasting galvanometer, which is used to test electric blasting circuits.

While I did a lot of research, I could not figure out an exact date for this device, but my research suggested it was made somewhere between the 1920s-1950s. This particular device is still in good condition, considering its age.

(The picture attached is not the galvanometer I worked with, but a very similar one that was photographed online)

Following the completion of cataloguing this item, I wrote a small introduction of myself for the newsletter. I talked about my status at IUP, what I want to do with my degree and what I hope to get out of this internship.
