This week began a little slower than usual. I spent a majority of the beginning of the week doing some filing because the computer had to do some updates. Once those had finished, I began cataloging.

Many of these items required me to dig around through our records, matching them up to old numbers or newer accession records. Some of these were quite easy to find, already having tags with their old numbers on them. Others, however, were a tedious and long journey to find the items. I continued to catalogue for the rest of the week. I hope to finish this by next week, allowing me time to work on my exhibit proposal/exhibit.

I also learned something this week. For files with old numbers from the previous organization, we implement 9999. for the beginning of the accession number, as opposed to the year it came in.

Toward the end of the week, I continued filing for a majority of the time. The computer was doing updates (again) and some of the volunteers as well as Jonathan were hanging Christmas Lights on the Clark House. Once they were finished, I resumed cataloging.

In my Museum Methods class, we are working on an exhibition project in groups. There are a few roles, educator, curator, and exhibit designer, that we had to pick from within our group. Although exhibit designer would seem the obvious choice for me (as an interior design student), I chose to be the curator of the exhibit. Much like what I do at the historical society, I very much enjoy having an in depth knowledge on the items I am working with. I feel that it gives me a greater sense of purpose and comes almost naturally to me.

To end the week, I did some more filing — finally reaching a halfway point in the surname files. I would like to finish organizing them before I leave but it likely will not happen. In terms of the cataloguing, it was going slower than I anticipated — leaving me only about halfway through the items (there were 17 of them). I will proceed next week with finishing the cataloguing of these items, in addition to measuring and photographing them.

I also inquired more about the exhibit brief/proposal that was asked of me, and was given an example that had been previously made. (shown below)

I really want to start focusing on this so I can work out any issues that may arise with this.

I am looking forward to working on the exhibit proposal as the semester starts to wind down!

I still need to check with Jonathan about the items without record -- I know we need to make a list to give to the newspaper to publish, but I am unsure if he wants to do that or if he wants me to do it.

I am not sure if the exhibit will be up and ready before I leave for winter break/finish my internship. I was shown an example of an exhibit brief and will be working on something of that nature to present to Jonathan for my exhibit. I have sketches and a concept-type of rendering I made in Photoshop, but I need to work on the written parts of my exhibit.
