To start this (long) week, I began filing. DJ, our secretary/administrative assistant/ all around wonderful person, went on vacation and we were a little busy today. Once more, as it is almost every time I come in, set on doing a lot of work, the computer did updates and I needed to log in, but had to wait until Jonathan could help me. Thankfully, I got my space in the Stephenson Room organized and some filing done in the process of waiting. I am down yet another filing cabinet! While still in the process of going through the one pile, things without accession numbers/not in the Past Perfect system, I got to draw upon some of my research skill, particularly ones I learned in my Archival Studies class last fall. When we were researching and organizing our specific collection, a lot of work went into the details of research. Taking the skills and applying them to a slightly different process is a little challenging but also very helpful. I definitely feel that I have been able to draw on a lot of my skills that I have learned in my Public History courses and applying them to what I have been working on. And once again, I have been thinking about my exhibit for the end of the semester and what connections I hope to make with my Museum Methods class -- especially because we just learned about deconstructing the messages behind exhibits and what the audience can gain from them.
